Description
The Greek Gods By Rick Riordan
The gods are made out to be rapists–big-time rapists. Yes, Percy gives nice warnings and all of that. Percy does not excuse the god’s behavior. But, it is in this book and there is a lot, in particular with Zeus. So, please, be very aware of this and decide if it is right for your child to read.
I am an avid Greek mythology lover. From what I understand (I am aware I may be wrong but I read this in several different places) that the *original* myths were not that violent and Zeus (and none of the other gods) were painted as rapists. All the sex they did with goddesses and mortals was all consensual. The myths became more violent over time, particularly when the Romans took over, and that was how the gods became big-time rapists. Why Rick Riordan chose to paint the gods this why is beyond me. He has to know that kids will be reading this. I personally will not let my son be reading this until he is at least 13 years old and I can explain it to him in great detail.
