Wretched by Emily McIntire
First off, I truly enjoyed Scarred and Hooked. Wretched was a fun, fast-paced read. The story has dual POVs of the main characters and features awesome tropes like enemies to lovers and forbidden romance. It’s a twisted fairy tale with the main character as the villain, loosely referencing the Wizard of Oz. Kudos to the author for making the dark-haired, morally gray character a woman. I’m all in for that – 110%! Overall, it was steamy and enjoyable.
The story was the perfect length (Goldilocks-style in the 3 Bears House – “not too long or not too short”). The ending tied up nicely, and I felt it was coming to a close without feeling rushed like the previous two books.
The character’s relationship development was spot on! ๐ฏ There was real progression not just some lustful obsession! They went through the enemies-to-lovers cycle PERFECTLY… from a “quick fling” to “I don’t like you”ย to “I can’t stop thinking about you” to “Wow – you actually see me for who I am and accept my flaws” to “Okay, I think I love you”!!!
The WRITING โ๏ธ was clear, easy to understand, and super easy to DEVOUR! It had a great mix of witty dialogue, description, plot building, and development. It sets up the perfect scene for a small family ruling the town’s illegal operations.
Wretched is one of the steamiest and most violentย fairy tales I’ve read. Of course, I loved it! Take everything you know about The Wizard of Oz and toss it aside. This Yellow Brick Road leads you down a different path. The heat is scorching ๐ฅ! Seriously, this book broke the smutty hotness meter ๐ก๏ธ๐ฅ.
