Heir of Fire is full of struggles, magic, choices, and embracing destiny. This series just keeps getting better and better and I love every bit of it.

Celaena Sardothien now reveled to be Aelin Galathynius is traveling to Wendelyn with a mission from the king to kill Wendelyn’s royal family. Instead, she decides to seek out answers about the Wyrdkeys to defeat the king and she meets Rowan, a Fae warrior who takes her to meet her aunt, Queen Maeve of the Fae. However, in order to get the answers, Celaena is to prove herself by embracing her Fae heritage, her magic and who she really is.

So she trains with Rowan to gain control over her magic and helps her face her inner demons, fears and past. Eventually she overcomes her fears, gains control over her magic, and helps Rowan track down a creature hunting demi-fae in the area. Their search leads them to the king’s army in Wendelyn and a shocking discovery of who leads them and what they are after.

Back in Eriela, Dorian continues to learn to control his magic and keeps it hidden from everyone, mostly from his father. He meets a healer named Sorscha, a healer who helps him with his magic and begins to grow close to her. Chaol is torn between his loyalties after learning the truth about the king and Celaena’s true identity. He has joined forces with the rebels along with an unlikely ally in the fight against the king. Chaol and his ally, Aedion also investigate the king’s power and how he brought down magic a decade ago.

There is another side story being told in Heir of Fire following a witch named Manon, heir to her witch clan, the Blackbeaks. Manon and her clan and two other clans have been summoned by the king to be a part of his army. The army will have the witches and winged creatures called Wyverns, and in return the witch clans can keep the Wyverns and reclaim their homeland, the Witch Kingdom after they have served him. Manon tries to become the best but that becomes hard when she has the other rival witches willing to do whatever it takes to win the price of wing leader in the king’s army.

Celaena is facing more challenges than she has before and among them is dealing with her grief and embracing her magic. Celaena has become vulnerable and self-loathing after everything that has happened and what she’s supposed to do now. She gets better towards the end. Dorian and Chaol have their own struggles throughout the book. Dorian is still trying to master his magic and trying to hide it from everyone, most of all from his father who will kill him. He is also starting to finally stand up to his father and become a true king that he is destiny to be. Chaol’s loyalties are torn but he has become bolder and is willing to make sacrifices as he joins forces with unlikely allies for the greater good.

There are a number of new characters being introduced in Heir of Fire. Rowan is a fae warrior who Celaena trains with and they form a friendship. At first I didn’t like Rowan for his tough love approach but he later grows on me and I love him in the end. Aedion is a general in the King’s army and is also Aelin/Celaena’s cousin who becomes an ally of Chaol after learning that Aelin was alive. He is very devoted to Aelin and is willing to die for her. I love him. Sorscha is sweet, caring and tough in her own way and I like her. I also liked the growing relationship between her and Dorian. Manon is tough and scary and someone I don’t want to cross paths with. I liked her but unsure of why her story was being told in the first place.

Overall, Heir of Fire was beyond amazing. I am in love with his series with a mixture of magic, medieval setting and amazing characters. Celaena, Chaol and Dorian have grown up in this book as they have faced some of their faces and took a stand on where and what they are willing to fight for. I liked the romance between Dorian and Sorscha, the alliance between Chaol and Aedion and the friendship that grew between Rowan and Celaena. The last few chapters filled me with so many emotions and it left me eager for more. I cannot wait for the next book.
